Why Jervis Bay? Phil Cowlishaw and his family have lived lived in three countries and over 14 homes, “always searching for a true anchor—a place to gather, no matter the season.”

In finding and creating Slow Stay, Oyster Catcher Huskisson, the busy nomads have created cherished memories, celebrated milestones, and discovered the joy of slowing down. “With each visit, Jervis Bay feels more like the forever home we’ve been searching for,” Phil says.

“When we stumbled upon Oyster Catcher Huskisson, it felt like finding a hidden gem – a place where we could do our bit to preserve the magic of the perfect beach holiday and create a lifetime of new memories with our family, friends and like-minded travellers.

“These houses hold iconic memories of holidays past and offer a chance to share something timeless with our children—a break from today’s always-on, hyper-connected world. Here, kerb-free streets invite barefoot strolls to the beach, BBQs on the deck turn into long, laughter-filled nights, and bunk beds feel like an endless adventure. There’s street cricket, the hum of cicadas, ice creams melting under the summer sun, and the sweet taste of freedom all around.”

This is Phil’s Jervis Bay Guide.

Where to get the best coffee in Jervis Bay

Harleys isn’t just our favourite coffee spot—it feels like a second home. Martine, the owner, is almost always there with a warm smile and ready for a chat, making every visit special – Ros and the kids are often there to.

It’s the little things we adore, like the cute freckle they add with your coffee, and let’s not forget the Tuna Sambo—it’s our absolute favourite. We can’t help but keep coming back for more.

Best Jervis Bay cafes and restaurants

For a proper sit-down breakfast, 5 Little Pigs is our go-to—always delicious, always a great vibe. If you’re around for lunch or dinner, their food truck at Jervis Bay Brewery is a solid choice too.

Craving modern Asian? Wild Ginger never disappoints. And when it comes to pizza, Peter Eva absolutely nails it every time.

Best spot for a drink in Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay Brewery is our go-to spot for drinks—its kid friendly, with a laid back crowd and always a seat.

Best way to enjoy the sunset in Jervis Bay

We love picking up (always unshucked!) oysters from the Shellfish Market (because fresh is best!), grabbing a meal from Pasta Buoy, and a bottle of gin from the distillery.

Then, we take it all to Voyager Park, settle in, and soak up the magic of the sun setting over the bay. It’s one of those simple rituals that never gets old.

Best way to go slow

Don’t move – eat and drink on the front deck at Oyster Catcher Huskisson! If you need to, long lazy days by Moona Moona Creek. Evening walks and games on the waterfront.
