The Noosa Hinterland is one of those places that discerning travellers like to keep to themselves. Out past the cane fields and the roadside fruit stalls, where the air shifts and the pace of things rearranges itself, you’ll find some of the most considered Slow Stays in the Sunshine Coast region – from working farms, to a historic pub, a solo women’s retreat and off-grid tiny houses tucked into the hills.

Here’s our edit.

INTO THE WILD ESCAPES – TINY AAHANA & TINY HEIDI

Bollier & Pinbarren, Qld

Tucked into the hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Into The Wild Escapes offers two distinct off-grid tiny homes for those who want to trade noise for nature, properly.

Tiny Heidi, located in Bollier in the Mary Valley about two hours north of Brisbane, sleeps four and has a quietly intimate feel. A queen bed with a window view, a double bed in the loft, an outdoor bathtub on the deck, and nothing but rural surrounds as far as you can see. It’s the one to book when you want deep conversations, slow mornings, and to leave sun-kissed and smiling.

Tiny Aahana is a different proposition entirely – bigger, bolder and perched high on a hill just 30 minutes from Noosa Heads with 360-degree rolling green views that stop you mid-sentence. Sleeping up to six, it suits a group of friends or a family wanting real breathing room. There’s an outdoor bathtub made for every season (warm soaks in winter, cool dips in summer), a fire pit, a BBQ, and the kind of views you don’t tire of. Pets are welcome here too.

THIRLESTANE FARM

Cooroy, Qld

Near the quiet town of Cooroy, Thirlestane Farm is the kind of place that turns a long weekend into a proper reset. There’s a beautifully renovated workers’ cottage and a new barn – book one or both depending on your group, which makes it wonderfully flexible for families or a gathering of friends. The outdoor space is where this one really shines: lawn games, a fire pit to gather around as the hills go dark, and an outdoor projector for movies under the hinterland sky. It’s easy, considered fun – the kind that doesn’t require a plan.

ATELIER34

Black Mountain, Qld

Atelier34 is unlike anything else on this list – and arguably unlike anything else in Australia. Created by self-described forager and former visual merchandiser Lisa Williment, this beautifully crafted studio in Black Mountain near Cooroy was built almost entirely from salvaged and upcycled materials, and designed specifically for women travelling solo. Inside, it’s layered with texture and intention — books, paints, writing tools, a king bed dressed in beautiful linens, a lounge with fireplace, and hinterland views from every angle. Outside, a secluded copper bathtub and plunge pool await. There are in-room wellness offerings, and Lisa occasionally runs creative workshops and residencies from the space. It’s a place to exhale, create, or simply be – without agenda or interruption.

MAYAN FARM VILLAS

Kin Kin, Qld

Mayan Farm sits on a working farm just outside Kin Kin, and everything about it has been shaped by its owners’ hands. Rammed earth walls, repurposed concrete and recycled timber milled on site give the property an architecture that feels genuinely of the land – sustainability made sensuous. The main house and four villas offer effortless comfort: exquisite beds, well-stocked kitchens, and a central hub with a pizza oven and fire pit that naturally draws people together. Catering, if you want it, is local and delicious. Mayan Farm is the kind of place you book for a milestone and end up returning to for no reason at all.

KIN KIN HOTEL

Kin Kin, Qld

Staying at the Kin Kin Hotel isn’t just a place to sleep – it’s the natural conclusion to one of the best dining experiences in Australia. The nine heritage Queen rooms on the second floor of this beautifully restored country pub have been lovingly refreshed with antiques, bespoke bed-heads and a soothing palette that nods to the building’s history without being precious about it. No two rooms are the same, and what they lack in size they more than make up for in charm. Step onto the wraparound veranda and the hinterland countryside rolls out before you. In the morning, coffee and a house-made croissant are best enjoyed by the fireplace.

The catch – and it’s a good one – is that rooms are only available as part of a Dine & Stay package with dinner at The Woodshed restaurant. With only nine rooms, book well ahead.
