Raw but by no means rustic, Otways Loft is a beautiful hand-built treehouse tucked amongst the trees in the Otways Ranges, around two hours from Melbourne. Constructed from a menagerie of raw and recycled materials – including locally felled Mountain Ash tree poles, parts of an old train carriage, and materials from a nearby church – the three-story home is at once whimsical and homely. You won’t find a TV here. Instead, a gorgeous piano, chess board, books and games will encourage connection by the wood-burning fire, while outside you can swing in the double hammock or venture out to explore the nearby town of Forrest. If you’re travelling with a larger group, the neighbouring Steam Carriage train conversion can also be booked.
