With a bird’s-eye view of the Tasman Sea from the rugged cliffs of New Zealand’s west coast, The Nest soars high like an eagle, looking out at the expansive horizon and peak of Mount Taranaki. Although completely off-grid, the house is ultra-luxurious with a king-sized bed, outdoor bath and a dreamy lounge area to take in the trickle and roar of the river and ocean below. Being completely solar powered, the house lends itself to minimal interiors meaning you won’t find any large, noisy appliances inside. This was an intentional design decision to educate guests on mindful power consumption and the excess use of natural resources. If you fancy yourself a hunter gatherer type, forage for ingredients in the natural environment and cook by the beach under the stars.
