Lay down your head, listen to the waves crashing on the shore and cast your mind back in this rustic 75-year-old cottage. Can you imagine Ruby the seamstress working in her studio at the front of the house, pining for her husband, lost one night at sea? Here on the windswept West Australian coast of Geraldton, a short five-minute walk to town and the beach, the family Ruby was never able to have has since filled the space with love, vintage and handmade treasures. Jump on a bike to cruise to the beach and return to rinse off under the outdoor shower, unfurl the yoga mats and treat your overworked soul or pick some mint from the garden and make yourself a mojito.
Things we love
“I’m an avid collector – dad owned a salvage yard – so most of the pieces in the space are things I already owned, then I made baskets and wall hangings to hang beside works by local artists.”
~ Anne-Marie Hopkinson, The Seamstress & The Sailor
